Marbella: The jewel of the Costa del Sol by its own merits

Marbella: The jewel of the Costa del Sol by its own merits

of life

Its name crosses borders. And even English tourists have adopted the term Marbs to name the most famous city on the Costa del Sol: Marbella.

Recently chosen as the most exclusive municipality of the Costa del Sol, the city is used to shine. Its climate, far from extreme values and with an average temperature of 19 degrees a year, is one of its main attractions.

The city is also an example of multiculturalism. Almost 25% of its population is foreign, which is reflected in the cosmopolitan atmosphere that you can feel every corner of the city.

The most curious thing about Marbella is that it combines to perfection areas that gather the most representative of the Andalusian culture, its traditions, the narrow streets of the old town, its bars of yesteryear with another facet whose most representative area is the Golden Mile and Puerto Banus, where luxurious yachts, exclusive boutiques and international restaurants are all over around.

The municipality also has countless housing developments with villas or mansions of high standing, exclusives beach clubs and nightclubs where play the most prestigious DJs.

In Marbella enjoy both those who have a drink in front of the Faro beach (a classic for the locals) and those who book a table in five-star restaurants, a Michelin star or book a box at the famous Starlite festival, which has already become a benchmark of the international music scene.

A city where those who were born here, those who like to call themselves “marbelleros”, those who have been living in the city for decades, “marbellíes” and those who have simply adopted the municipality as their second home, live together and mixed  up.

Marbelleros will tell you that their city is the one of the small fishing port, the Pilgrimage of San Bernabé or the one of the beautiful cristian Holy Week. And they are right.

But it is a vision that has remained incomplete. And perhaps that is why this old fishing village fascinates everyone today. Because here you can find everything you are looking for, no matter what.

If you opt for the more traditional side of the municipality and you want to know how the locals live, you should not miss to have a few churros with chocolate in any neighborhood cafe, walk from the center to Puerto Banus, round trip, along its promenade of marble and sand (favorite sport of the people of Marbella) or participate in some of the traditional moragas on the beach, where the sardines on skewer are the real protagonists.

For a gastronomic experience of author Marbella also has a lot to choose from. An example of this is Boho Club Restaurant, a restaurant located on Marbella’s Golden Mile, which has made the city’s concept of integration its own, offering gourmet spaces for all tastes. The exclusivity of its atmosphere gets along very well with a close service that makes you feel at home. A concept of luxury friendly and relaxed  framed within the facilities of the prestigious Boho Club resort.

Marbella and its historic

Strolling through the historic center of Marbella is another of the luxuries that every tourist should allow himself. Its narrow streets are full of charm and they will lead you to places that represent the living history of the city. An example of this is the Alcazaba Castle dating from the ninth century, the imposing Church of the Incarnation whose construction began in 1505, or the popular Plaza de los Naranjos, where you will also find the renaissance-style Town Hall building.
Moreover, throughout the year, especially during the summer season, it is not uncommon to run into international celebrities of cinema or politics, who seek in Marbella a well-deserved rest without giving up the tranquility.

Marbella is also nature

The Alameda promenade, the Avenida del Mar, the Artola Dunes and the Nagüeles Park are other places that worth a visit if you are looking for a relaxing time or contact with nature.

Marbella is also, thanks to its exceptional climate, a great place to have picnics and enjoy its natural environment. A totally different gourmet picnic experience can be found at Boho Club. You can enjoy a very special day in a bohemian space created for you in its gardens, which have wonderful views of the Concha mountain.

By land, sea or air Marbella is a luxury city that has a lot to offer and where you will enjoy an elegant and unforgettable vacation.

Welcome to the city where the sun never stops shining!

Costa del Sol: A sun, beach and golf paradise

Costa del Sol: A sun, beach and golf paradise

Costa del Sol is located on the Mediterranean coast of Málaga and has gained worldwide fame due to, above all, its quality of life.

Every year millions of tourists from all over the world land at Malaga airport. Before the pandemic there was a record number of visitors which, pending the data for 2022, has not yet been surpassed and which involved the arrival of 12,556,000 people, with the largest number of visitors coming from the United Kingdom.

The good communications between the airport and the different municipalities of the Costa del Sol is another attraction for visitors, who can visit several of the towns in few days

The Andalusian charm

The Costa del Sol is formed by the municipalities of Benalmádena, Torremolinos, Fuengirola, Mijas, Marbella, Estepona, Casares and Benahavís.
Each one of them has its own idiosyncrasy, although they have in common an excellent climate, sunny days all year round, Mediterranean gastronomy and a relaxed way of life that contrasts with the crazy rhythm at the big capitals.
Regarding the architecture, it is quite varied, although the type of buildings that most attract the attention of visitors are the typical whitewashed Andalusian houses that coexist with modern buildings and exclusive villas and mansions.

It is impossible to talk in a single article about all the attractions of one of the largest tourist areas in the world but we are going to show you a little bit of what you can find in the province of Malaga.

The beaches of the Costa del Sol

If we have to choose a beach in Benalmadena this could be La Viborilla. It is an ideal space for families because there we can find a lot of services: umbrellas and hammocks for rent, showers and public toilets and its cleanliness is also quite good. Another beach worth mentioning for similar characteristics is Torrevigía.

Again, let’s have a look at the most suitable beaches to go with the whole family. Some of the most popular, which also have good location, multiple services and stores in the surroundings are, El Bajoncillo, Playamar, La Carihuela or Los Alamos

From this town it is worth to visit the beach of Sohail Castle located just at the foot of this beautiful castle, with large extension and easy access from the national road.  Another plus point is that being next to the landing of the Fuengirola River, children can enjoy boat rides and other attractions that are usually installed in the vicinity.

The beaches in the center of the municipality are not bad but their sand is coarse and they are usually of little extension. It is worth taking the car and move towards the eastern part of the town, towards areas such as Cabopino and Elviria where we find white sand and beautiful dunes along with a great environmental setting.  Other similar ones are the beach of Los Caños (exit on the A-7 from El Rosario) or the beach of Rio Verde, towards Puerto Banus.

Accommodation offer

If you are lucky enough to have your second residence in the municipality, we will not argue that nowhere feels like home. But if this is not your case, we recommend a resort where you will feel the same. In the heart of Marbella’s Golden Mile, at the foot of the spectacular mountain of La Concha and superbly communicated is Boho Club. This is a very cozy luxury boutique resort where you can enjoy an exclusive and relaxed atmosphere. Suites and bungalows elegantly decorated and with all the comforts.

A resort that also has a haute cuisine restaurant headed by the prestigious chef Diego del Rio and that offers a close service and menus adapted for every moment of the day.

Golf: The star sport

Golf  is, without a doubt, the star sport of the Costa del Sol. Players from all over the world take advantage of the mild temperatures of autumn, winter and spring to practice their swing in one of the many golf courses scattered along the coast.

The explosion of this sport took place in the 60’s, a decade in which clubs began to proliferate, mostly focused on tourists with high purchasing power.

It is then when the Costa del Sol began to receive the name of Costa del Golf. A well-deserved name since nowadays this area is the one with the largest accumulation of golf courses in Europe. Nowadays, Marbella has 21 golf courses, Mijas has got 11, Estepona 10, Benahavís, San Roque and the capital of Málaga have 3 respectively, Casares, Rincón de la Victoria and Benalmádena have two each one of them and the municipalities of Vélez Málaga, Fuengirola, Nerja and Manilva close the list with one each.

In these links you can take a look at some of them:

Santa Clara Golf, Marbella

El Higueral Golf, Benahavís

El Paraiso Golf, Estepona

Shall we go shopping?

Another of the attractions of the Costa del Sol is shopping. A high percentage of the tourists who visit us have a high purchasing power and this, added to certain tax advantages, makes the area a magnet for shopping.

Shopaholics will be delighted to be able to visit boutiques representing everything from low-cost to the most exclusive brands.

Some suggestions below:

– Puerto Banús: The brand lovers’ paradise. Fendi, Michael Khors, Baby Dior, Peserico, Bvulgari, Emporio Armani or Gucci are some of the boutiques present in the most glamorous port of the Costa del Sol.

– Corte Ingles (Malaga and Marbella) – It is the most popular Spanish shopping center. It is aimed at the upper-middle class and offers all kinds of products and services.

– Miramar Shopping Center (Fuengirola). Clothes, supermarkets, restaurants, cinemas.

– La Cañada (Marbella)-. Shopping center of popular brands and others of high range. It has also a personal shopper service.

Hiking on the Costa del Sol

The Costa del Sol is much more than sun and beach. Nature lovers are in luck because its environment is of enormous wealth. One way to enjoy it is through hiking trails.

Some of the areas with more routes available are:

Sierra de las Nieves Park:

Walking through this territory named Biosphere Reserve is a walk through holm oaks, pine forests, cork oak groves, rivers and streams.

Sierra Bermeja:

This mountain complex begins in the area of Estepona, and the Padrón River route is one of the best known among hikers.

Sierra Blanca:

The highest peak is La Concha which reaches 1215 meters and whose ascent to the top  is a challenging route that has as a rewarding and  spectacular views of Marbella.
